2001
Vase of white tulips on the window sill.
Sixty feet above the ground but blooming still.
The first petal falls, disintegrates at my feet.
Seven hours later and the vase is empty.
Outside the window the sun is setting.
The street lamps click on all but one,
down beneath.
Oh and I
I will wait
till I can’t…
Can’t wait any longer.
Unwashed dishes in the kitchen sink.
The faucet is dripping
The walls were once green.
But the grease from the stove
Has long since painted them gray.
Oh and I
I will wait
till I can’t…
Can’t wait any longer.
Cold radiator it’s the end of winter.
Open up the windows. Let the air come in here.
Pick up the broom and push the dust away.
Oh and I
I will wait
till I can’t…
Can’t wait any longer.
